Art is one of the Expressive Arts subjects at Acle Academy that also includes Drama, Dance and Music. In the most recent review, Expressive Arts subjects were rated as ‘outstanding’ and OFSTED observed ‘good’ lessons in all areas. At Acle we want all our students to enjoy, appreciate and create art of all types in a variety of media.

There is a specialist art room with a wide range of resources available for students.  In Years 7 to 9, students explore the work of various artists, look at different cultures and learn to improve their drawing skills through portraiture and observation of natural forms. Art is a popular GCSE option choice and at this level, students are encouraged to develop their skills even further, refining their drawing and painting techniques and exploring their own personal interests.

You will see lots of original and creative work in the Art classrooms and there are numerous displays around the school. Students’ artwork is also on display in the wider community, in Acle and beyond. Our Burlingham Woods Project has received particular acclaim. Each year, GCSE Art students make art installations inspired by natural forms for one part of the woods - a set of colourful totem poles for example. The Art Department won the Education Prize recently at the Norfolk Community Biodiversity Awards.
