Physical Education

Slide 1

The PE department aim to develop young people that have a passion for physical activity and sport and who can make informed healthy lifestyle choices.

The PE department prides itself on personalised teaching that gives every pupil the opportunity to reach their full potential through outstanding assessment for learning strategies.

All pupils in the school take part in at least two hours per week of high quality PE and our GCSE PE course is highly regarded.

At key stage three, pupils are given choices of what activities they want to take part in so pupils are more engaged in activities that interest them whilst still studying a broad and balanced PE curriculum.

At key stage four, there is a wide range of leadership opportunites for pupils such as Junior Sports Leaders, Junior Football Organisers and Junior Netball Organisers and opportunities to develop officiating skills.  There is also an emphasis on helping pupils make informed decisions about maintaining a healthy lifestyle in ‘Sports Science’ units.

Acle Academy is one of only 6 high schools in Norfolk to have earnt the high quality PE award, this award is awarded to schools that can demonstrate that they provide high quality PE for all pupils.  The department was also recognised as ‘outstanding’ in the last round of internal subject inspections.

There is a wide range of extra curricular clubs and teams for pupils to attend, many of which are run by sports leaders higher up the school.  The school also regularly competes against other schools in various sports.

We want to inspire pupils so there are trips to Twickenham, Lords and Wimbledon throughout the year to see world class performers in action and an annual cricket tour for pupils to refine their cricket skills.  We run a gifted and talented mentoring program and encourage pupils to work with their peers on developing their skills in the ‘skills bank’.

Please feel free to contact Miss Schofield (Head of PE) if you have any further questions on PE provision at Acle Academy.
