High Notes

High Notes 405 - July 2017

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for supporting the school this year. I appreciate that the school community has undergone a lot of change over the past few years and I would like to thank parents and carers for your trust and continued support to help ensure the school is improving.

We were recently visited by Rosemary Prince who is a representative for the Department of Education.    She reported her findings back to Tim Coulson, the Regional Schools’ Commissioner, who stated, ‘without doubt the effort put into transforming behaviour around the school and in lessons is paying off, with a completely different feel about the school, which was strongly endorsed by students.’

High Notes 404 - May 2017

Welcome to our May edition of High notes which follows a very busy half term. We have all been working hard to support Year 11 students in the run up to their exams and we have been really proud of the dedication and work ethic displayed by our students. This is a very challenging time of year for our young people, the stress of the examination season can be very difficult and therefore it’s really important for students to ensure they get plenty of rest and avoid committing themselves to too many activities. We wish all of our students the best of luck in their exams.

High Notes 403 - Trust News

Firstly I would like to thank the Academies in The Wensum Trust for hosting our news update in their newsletter. The Wensum Trust had its first birthday on February 12th 2017. Much has happened in a year. When we started a year ago there was only one school in the trust, Hellesdon High School but time and the Department for Education (DfE) wait for no one and we have had rapid growth since then.   September 2016 Firside Junior School,  October 2016 Acle Academy, Arden Grove Infant & Nursery and Garrick Green Infant, February 2017   Lodge Lane Infant and April 2017 Heather Avenue Infant.  We are currently in consultation with the DfE and the Wells federation of schools to join the trust in late summer and autumn 2017. This will include, Alderman Peel High School, Wells Primary and Nursery and Burnham Market Primary.

High Notes 402 - Spring Term

We have had another busy half term and I would like to thank staff, students, parents and carers for all their support as we move the school forward on our journey.

We have been focusing on gaining commonality in our lessons by introducing a learning question to the beginning of every lesson and ensuring that all students know the learning outcomes that we hope to achieve by the end of the lesson. We have also been focusing on ensuring consistency with our marking and feedback.  Students should be responding to each teacher’s marking using a green pen to complete all spelling and punctuation errors and completing their next steps.

High Notes 401 - Welcome

I would like to extend my thanks to all staff, parents, carers and students in what has been an excellent Autumn term. The school has made significant progress and it is thanks to the hard work of the entire school community that we have moved forward so effectively. We have all had lots of new changes in terms of our structures and systems, but these systems and structures are beginning to yield a positive impact, so thank you to everyone for their support in this period of transition.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday together with your family and friends and I hope that you make lots of wonderful memories together this Christmas.

Becoming part of The Wensum Trust

Welcome to our half term edition of High Notes. As mentioned in the previous edition, High Notes will be a half termly newsletter as we will be moving recent news to our website. We also hope to launch our official Acle Academy Twitter news feed after half term which will provide parents with an up to date account of events as they happen.

We are already enjoying the benefits of being part of a larger family of schools and the many opportunities this affords us. We look forward to growing our networks across the all schools and contributing to the strategic aims of the Trust.

Being part of a school community

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our first edition of High Notes for this academic year and the start of our Journey to Excellence at Acle Academy High. It has been a busy two weeks for all staff and students with lots of positive changes and I have been really impressed with the way students have reacted so well to our new expectations on behaviour and conduct around the school. Staff and students are openly saying that the school feels different, we are certainly moving in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Great Work and Well Done!

Great Work and Well Done

Welcome to the last edition of High Notes of this academic year. We are looking forward to finishing the school year on a real positive with the Awards Assemblies and I look forward to meeting many of you as you watch your son/daughter receive an award.

Whichever way you look at this year it has not been easy for anybody because of the lack of consistency and stability since the Ofsted inspection in June 2015 followed by the real thing in December 2015. I am pleased to report that we have now had our monitoring visit which took place on Wednesday and Thursday,  6th and 7th July 2016. The aim of the visit was to assess what progress the school had made since the last inspection.

A new era

Welcome to the penultimate edition of High Notes for this academic year. We will be celebrating with Year 11 on Friday night at their Prom and I am sure it will be a lovely evening where the stress and strain of GCSEs are forgotten and they can look back at their time at Acle Academy with a lot of pride and affection. When I was last Headteacher at the school I always used to marvel at the weird and wonderful modes of transport that the students used to arrive in and I am sure this year will be no exception. We wish them all a wonderful evening, a restful and peaceful summer holiday and of course a successful results day.

A New Era

On Monday and Tuesday of next week the Board of Directors of the Wensum Trust will be interviewing  for a new Head of School for Acle Academy. We have five high quality candidates all of whom we believe have the qualifications and experience to get the job done.

Goodbye Year 11

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to the June edition of High Notes. “Flaming June” is meant to describe this month but as yet we are still waiting for a flicker. I am sorry this has meant that the students cannot enjoy to the full being outside during break times.  Nevertheless I am grateful for the mature way the vast majority of them have conducted themselves both in and around the school.

Goodbye Year 11…

Year 11 leave this week and I wish them a happy and peaceful extended holiday. All of the examinations I have seen them taking have been conducted with a good focus and a professional attitude and it is my biggest hope that we get the best possible results in August.
