U15 Tennis Team

On Monday 17th July the U15 tennis team made the long trip to Alderman Peel in Wells to play the Norfolk County Division 2 Final. On a warm day the students played their doubles matches first. Alfie Nicholls and Ben King defeated the number 1 and 2 pairing 6-2 whilst Eddie Mann and Arthur Martins narrowly lost. In the singles games, Ben and Eddie both won whilst Alfie and Arthur were very unlucky to be defeated. This meant the match was tied and a playoff followed. Ben and Alfie took on the number 2 and 3 seeds and comprehensively won the tie break 7-1 to secure the teams second Norfolk Division 2 Championship. This is an amazing achievement and a fantastic way for the boys to conclude their competitive tennis at Acle Academy. The PE department are extremely proud of all you have achieved in the past four years!

U15 Cricket Team

On Tuesday 11th July 2017 our U15 cricket team took part in the District Cup Finals Day. In the semi-final Acle batted first against Flegg and the openers Patterson and Utting quickly reached a fifty partnership before the latter was caught. Patterson and Gray then increased the total, but unfortunately Patterson’s innings was brought to an end when he nicked a pacey delivery which was caught by the keeper. Max Littlewood came into bat and scored impressively before he was bowled in the penultimate over. Acle finished their innings with a total of 132 for 4. The Acle bowling attack started strongly with Gray, Littlewood and Mann taking wickets. Catchpole then took two quick wickets to take out the tail enders to complete the win.

The semi-final win meant the young Acle side would face a strong Broadland side in the final. Acle batted first and the openers scored well before a very deceptive spin bowler dismissed Patterson, Utting and Littlewood. Gray and Mann steadied the ship and scored well to complete an innings total of 109. Broadland started slowly in bat but the openers soon got into their stride to score well. Gray made the break-through in the ninth over and Mann soon took a second. Ringwood then took a couple of wickets as the rain made fielding difficult. This set up a tense finale with Broadland requiring four runs off the final two overs. Exceptional bowling from Mann and Ringwood almost got Acle over the line but they just fell short with two balls to go.

This was a great achievement for this young Acle side to come runners-up, so well done to the boys!

U15 Tennis Team

On Wednesday 28th June, Acle U15 tennis team comprehensively defeated Old Buckenham 5 matches to 1. Alfie Nicholls, Ben King and Eddie Mann all won their singles matches. The boys then followed up this superiority by winning both doubles matches. Eddie and Arthur Martins won 7-6 on a tiebreak whilst Ben and Alfie won comfortably 6-1. Well done to the boys on a fantastic result.

Tennis Report

On Thursday our U13 tennis team narrowly lost a tennis fixture against Notre Dame 4 - 2. After the two doubles matches, the contest was all square at 1-1 and the singles matches again proved close with Acle winning 1 and their visitors winning 2. Therefore, Bradley Kemp’s, number two seed match, was a deciding game. This match was a very close encounter which went to a tiebreak, but unfortunately the visiting player did just enough to win. This was a very good performance by the boys in their first season playing competitively. Well done Bradley Kemp, Harley Edwards, Hayden Greenhall and Sam Utting.

Under 15 Cricket Team

U15 Cricket

On Tuesday 20th June Acle U15 cricket team comprehensively defeated Cliff Park in the quarter final of the Great Yarmouth Schools District Cup. Captain Jack Patterson decided to put Acle into bat first which appeared to be the correct decision. Sam Utting opened the batting with Patterson and looked comfortable hitting two fours and quickly getting to 17 before an inside edge sent the bales flying. Ben Gray, Patterson and Max Littlewood forged a good partnership with the latter two quickly reaching 25 and retiring.

Good bowling from Cliff Park saw off the Acle middle order whilst Eddie Mann and Robert Aldridge gained important runs in the final few overs to help Acle reach an innings total of 140 for 8. Acle’s bowling attack got off to a strong start with pacey bowling from Gray and Durrant whilst expert spin from Littlewood reduced the visitors run rate. Early wickets from Gray, Littlewood and Mann put Acle in full control. A very special moment soon followed when Year 7 student Owen Skoyles took his first U15 wicket with some excellent bowling. Mann, Patterson, and Littlewood took more wickets to bowl the visitors out in the 19th over with a total of 55.

This was a fantastic performance from a young Acle side which will see us compete in the finals day, and it was pleasing to see such great team spirit from a mix of years.

Team: Jack Patterson ©, Ben Gray, Sam Utting, Owen Skoyles,  Max Littlewood, Robert Aldridge, Eddie Mann, Ben King, Harvey Durrant, Antony Ringwood and Luke Callaghan.
